After we have heard how terribly our planet is being destroyed, it is now time to find back hope and start acting for a change! The following artists help us see a few of the countless possible ways of engaging in this positive change while providing us with catchy tunes to hum along. This is the last part of our playlist and it is meant to guide you towards your own personal climate action - maybe through these environmental anthems…
IT'S GETTIN' BETTER (MAN!!)
Oasis
Let’s begin with a strong “It’s gettin' better (Man!!)” by the iconic British band Oasis. Being one of their loudest songs it has often been perceived as a piece too long and too messy. Nonetheless, it perfectly captures the discomfort of realizing “the dreams that we dream are gone”, which can be translated into giving up our current lifestyle and way of treating this planet. It calls to “build something | build a better place and call it home”. So let’s find new songs to sing and new dreams to dream of our common aim towards a better future.
CANVAS BAGS
Tim Minchin
This anthem is Tim Minchin’s contribution to the rise of environmental awareness with a funny and haunting chorus that will keep popping up in your head for hours after listening and surely whenever you go to the supermarket next time. It might seem a tiny gesture - however, practiced all over the world it would make a big difference towards a major decrease in plastic bags wasted - so let’s take our canvas bags when we go to the supermarket!

One step further from taking our canvas bags, is Jack Johnson’s wholesome approach to “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”. In this upbeat song, the three elements of sustainable behavior are explained in playful and engaging lyrics. It is so easy to sing along as you can hear from the children singing the background vocals that you can’t get enough of it - empowering us to implement the 3Rs into our daily routine.

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark
It is not only important for every single person to be sustainable in their everyday lives, but also to achieve a systemic efficiency in our energy and electricity generation. An increase in renewable energies in the past decades might even have been initiated by these lines…

What sounds like a cheesy advertising slogan becomes a great song in Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark’s Electricity thanks to its strong melodic synthesizer pop and 80’s vibe. Not only an inspiration to us for reconsidering the wasteful usage of energy in our society but also one for many other artists to pursue a career in electronic music (hopefully with more environmental songs in charge for the 2nd edition of this playlist).
PRIVATE REVOLUTION
World Party
Well, and if all this climate action isn’t for you, then why not start your own revolution for a better world? Definitely listen to this groovy 80’s song by World Party while you’re at it! After checking out this tune, you will at least infect everyone around you with revolution-related thoughts, because these lyrics came to stay and be sung over and over again.
